Front of Hermitage Site in its Raw Stage
This original building was constructed in the mid-eighteenth century. It was only the first third of what appears now. You can see the seam to the left of the third window where a new construction was added on in approximately the early nineteenth century. The last "add-on" was in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
Our construction goal is to create three separate hermitages out of this dwelling which had five very small apartments. (See architectural drawing below.) This building has no plumbing or electrical components. The door frames are smaller than the standard door frames of today. Francesco Zampetti, our architect, has assured us that this stone edifice is very sound and built very well. However, it needs much work, including a new roof and complete refurbishment of the interior.

Rear of Building
The angle of the rear portion of the building shown here has the latest "add-on" (around the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century) in the foreground of the photo. As you can see, the back portion begins on the second floor, as it was constructed on a hill.
Forest Path Next to Hermitages
This forest path leads into a forest preserve, and is a continuation of the road in front of our building. It lends so much to the peace and serenity of area. The property is owned by the county and no future development will take place on it. The walk through this lovely preserve lends itself to the solitude and silence so necessary for the laura.
River Running in Front of Hermitages
To the right of this stream of water is the path leading to the forest preserve. About 20 feet to the right of this path is our hermitage building. It is such a lovely spot, so filled with the blessings of God's beauty and gracious creation!
